Variant Oocyte Membrane Proteins and Breeder SubFertility

چکیده
The continuous improvement of quality of animal products and the animals themselves is one of the responsibilities we share as geneticists. As increases in human populations increase worldwide, the pressure to increase production of foodstuffs becomes more and more intense. Most notably, we have focused a tremendous effort at improving production of domestic animals. Among the meat-animal species, improvement of body weight, growth rate, muscle yield and feed conversion have received the major effort. Unfortunately, improvement in production has come at the cost of the reproductive fitness of the animals themselves. Among meat-type chickens, egg production of primary breeder hens rarely exceeds 175 hatching eggs per hen pedigreed selection lines fare much worse. Further, it was common in the 1960's to house 1 rooster per 15 hens to ensure maximal fertility of a flock. Currently, roosters are housed at a 1:10 ratio and often need to be replaced by younger males as their mating effectiveness declines with age.

O-8: Molecular Mechanisms of Membrane Fusion Involved in Fertilization
Background: Assisted fertilization procedures are a currently widespread practice to regulate reproduction in humans and animals. The arising question is why the human being manipulating gametes to generate new individuals, if we do not understand yet the molecular mechanism of fertilization?. Successful completion of fertilization in mammals is dependent on three membrane fusion events: 1. the...
متن کاملP-65: Maternal Effect Genes in Mammalian Reproduction
Background: Regulation of gene expression in mammalian embryos is not completely known. Pre-implantation embryos need maternal RNA and proteins synthesized during oogenesis, to regulate development before mater-embryo transition, as the grown oocyte and the 1-cell zygote are transcriptionally silent. There are some oocyte-specific genes called maternal effect genes which may account for this ea...

Abstract The S362A mutation block ROMK2 (Kir1.1b) endocytosis in Xenopus laevis oocyte membrane . Saeed Hajihashemi1 , 1-Assistant professor, PhD in Physiology, Department of Physiology, School of Medical science, Arak University of Medical Sciences. Introduction: ROMK channel is localized on the apical membrane of the nephron. Recent studies suggest that endocytosis of ROMK chan...
متن کاملMitoguardin-1 and -2 promote maturation and the developmental potential of mouse oocytes by maintaining mitochondrial dynamics and functions.
Mitochondrial dynamics change mitochondrial morphological features and numbers as a part of adaptive cellular metabolism, which is vital for most eukaryotic cells and organisms. A disease or even death of an animal can occur if these dynamics are disrupted. Using large-scale genetic screening in fruit flies, we previously found the gene mitoguardin (Miga), which encodes a mitochondrial outer-me...
متن کاملInteraction of potential porcine sperm ligands with the oocyte plasma membrane.
We previously identified 62, 39, 27 and 7 kDa porcine sperm plasma membrane proteins that demonstrated a predominant affinity for the porcine oocyte plasma membrane by Western ligand blotting. The current experiments were designed to further investigate the potential roles of these molecules in sperm-oocyte plasma membrane interaction. Abilities of these proteins to bind to the oocyte plasma me...
